Sailing - The Fastnet campaign

Sailing

I did a 2001 RORC Fastnet Race campaign on Incisor of Wight, so I have included a few photos to show just what a magnificent yacht she is.

Incisor is a custom Corby 45 that carries a crew of about 12. Accommodation is basic, but that's not the point - she sails like a dream.

In 2000, Incisor won the Round Britain and Ireland Race and was RORC 2000 IRM overall winner. In 2001, I believe she was defending 8 major trophies. We ended the season in IRM second place to the Fastnet winner, Tonnerre de Breskens, and 11th in IRC 0.

The Fastnet campaign includes a series of off-shore (cross channel) races, before the 608 mile Fastnet, which can take up to 5 days. Click on the rows under Result & Race Report for race reports.

Race programme
Name Date Start Finish Distance Result & Race Report
De Guingand Bowl 18/19 May Cowes St Vaast 92nm Line honours (by 4 seconds after 14 hours!)
Morgan Cup 8/9 June Cowes Dieppe 120nm Line honours (by 1 minute after 20 hours!)
St. Malo 1 6/7 July Cowes St. Malo 164nm A great race!
Fastnet 12/16 August Cowes Plymouth 608nm The owner's best time by 6hrs!
1I was going to do the Myth of Malham (Le Havre) race, but my kids were in their first international Judo competition on that weekend, so I switched to doing the St. Malo race (which is 70nm longer anyway).
